The US President Donald Trump’s administration on Tuesday mentioned the offer of emergency abortion in every hospital. In his democratic predecessor Joe Biden’s tenure, he issued guidance that emergency abortion was discussed and asked to consider it under medical emergencies, and not an illegal procedure. The Biden administration introduced this guidance in July 2022, stating it as a nationwide right of women. The guidance reminded healthcare providers about the obligation highlighted under a federal law, the emergency medical treatment and labor act 1986. The Act describes the role of a medicare participating hospitals that provide emergency care to patients who can’t afford to pay.
Medicare is a government healthcare program works for elderly. The hospitals that disobey EMTALA will lose Medicare funding. The 2022 guidance considers the emergency abortion as one of the EMTALA meeting right. The healthcare providers and states that have banned abortion should include this additional procedure under emergency. To the objection on this guidance, the US department of justice sued the Idaho state.
The government initiatives have always been a valuable contribution to the respective sectors. The ‘emergency abortion’ acceptance is a difficult trait to recognize weather its legal or illegal. The abortion reasons differ the situation resulting various cases. Whereas, this is a right benefitting both individual and region contributing to the individual’s concern and control of population. The practical and emotional concept gives a different societal perspective. This right should be defined under the ‘voting system’. With the calculation of a certain majority the right should be reconsidered and shape an additional legal factor, eliminating the violence of certain individual emotions. The broader concept of health and safety is a universal responsibility of government, medical staff and healthcare professionals.
