Hong Kong’s International Medical and Healthcare 16th fair and the 5th Asia summit on global health (ASGH) were introduced by the Hongkong Kong Trade Development Council. The event was based on components of International Healthcare Week (IHW), Hong Kong. The event gathered government representatives, industry leaders, investors, and global healthcare stakeholders. The theme was ‘Fostering global collaboration for a shared future.’ Further, the event highlighted challenges, reinforcements, innovations, and strategies.
Chairman of HKTDC, Dr. Peter K.N. Lam, pointed out the emerging challenges faced by the healthcare sector. Challenges such as the rising demand of the geriatric population, the resurgence of infectious diseases, and health equity issues. The ASGH has opened the door for innovation and collaboration, the current summit has already paved the way for partnership and investments. Hong Kong has benefited from the framework of ‘one country, two systems’ along with the robust connection with the international community and mainland China. These factors lead to intellectual property protection and improve financial services.
The summit's plenary session 1, ‘Shaping a more equitable and sustainable health system’, connected policymakers and global industry leaders to develop new strategies to elevate advancement criteria through collaboration. The discussion analyzed the need for the healthcare workforce and amplify the medical education infrastructure. This will help to achieve a sustainable health system. The plan to build a third medical school in Hong Kong is a smart move to adopt extended healthcare development and boost local capacity.
During thematic sessions, the summit announced global collaboration by initiating direct engagement between participants from various sectors aligned with the healthcare market. The summit also highlighted its ASGH business hub, which consists of 170 innovative technology industries. This provided an apt place for startups to develop and attract new ideas.
