The Australian health tech startup Heidi Health has headed into the pet area to introduce and deliver its AI medical scribe across vet clinics and emergency animal hospitals. This is the best thoughtful health-tech idea reviving vets, pets, and animals' hope across the busy world. The collaboration with the animal referral and emergency network (AREN) and Greencross is one of the first-ever huge-scale deployments of Heidi’s in veterinary clinics. After the launch in June, the tool has contributed to more than 5,000 consultations each week, with a few vets effectively available for essential work or sometimes saving for the full working day, eliminating paperwork.
The extension reinforces the veterinary staff and work environments, increasing the struggles to meet the demand with only 15,000 registered vets for an approximate 28.7 million pets in Australia. This calculates as hardly one vet at a time for each 2,000 animals. Based on the businesses, this causes longer wait times for an increased burnout rate and pet owners for clinicians. For Heidi's health, the availability of this technology is like an opportunity to try out its own technology differently, beyond human healthcare, and identify capacity potential/pressure in the veterinary spectrum.
Heidi Health was founded in 2019 and raised $36 million from investors, including US-based Headline and Blackbird Ventures. Including $26.5 million profit this year and a $10 million series A in the year 2023. Its AI-based scribe is adopted by most human healthcare consultations globally. Heidi Health also took an ethical stance on the use of AI in the doctor’s settings, and mainly highlighted the importance of patient consent. The startup is preparing for ISO/IEC 42001 certification by the end of the year.
Chief veterinary officer at Greencross Pet Wellness Company, Dr. Magdoline Awad, said, “We are continuously looking for new paths to welcome innovation to advance and improve the client’s experience in our network of specialty, emergency hospitals, and GP clinics.” Further, “the execution of Heidi’s health for our teams is like a transformation as it manages the behind-the-scenes tasks, delivers specialists and vets more time for what they have been trained for, and refines the daily work."
Co-founder and CEO of Heidi Health, Dr. Thomas Kelly said, “With this healthcare market being in growing strain the Heidi is playing a pivotal role in supporting animal clinics and letting hospitals focus on what really matters, like serving first-class care to animals and their owners.”
