Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Inc., a global leader in spider silk technology, has initiated a second parallel production facility, the quick introduction of a new diapausing system, and three new advanced spider silk strains for production. The back-to-back announcements covered three major advancements in the company’s successful spider silk manufacturing and marketing to achieve growth in production yield and enhance silk quality. The COO of Kraig Labs, Jon Rice, visited Southeast Asia, the company’s production facility center, to accommodate the official launch of a thrilling phase, which is one of Kraig’s production plans (2025 and 2026). The center of attraction to this advancement is the approach to the second parallel rearing center. For the second facility, the lease has been confirmed, and parental strain rearing will start in the next 30 days.
The Kraig labs development of the three new spider silk strains has been completed and are accessible in the field. These new strains were already developed last were at the time f company’s existing BAM-1 hybrid that enhanced hybrid vigor and elevated silk yield. The other strain was introduced as a replacement of BAM-1 parent lines. These two strains were developed for the production of silkworms for controlled diapause.
Diapause represents the silkworm's natural winter period. It is a process that reflects toa 90-day cold treatment provided to the silkworm eggs. The diapausing silkworm strain is an advanced and high-standard strain for the production of premium silk. The company’s target customers are a known and globally renowned producer of the finest garments and fabrics that are made from high-quality fibers. Kraig Labs promises to meet the high standards by transitioning diapausing egg production and introducing innovation in the spider silk, including the second facility. It is a main area for elevating production and achieving the goal.
Founder and CEO of Kraig Labs, Kim Thompson, said, “The two separate rearing centers are a major strategy to form a scalable and reliable supply chain that helps identify the demand for spider silk and the support for the production. This is a plan of our chief sericulture expert, Dr. Kumar. He will help with the throughput requirements to stop interruption and support vast commercial production.”
COO of Kraig Labs, Jon Rice, said, “The transitional change to a diapausing hybrid system defines our long-term vision to provide the standard quality spider silk at a commercial stage.”
