SpaceX, an American space technology company, has planned an expansion in Vietnam, expecting an opportunity in the healthcare market of the region that is open to adopting a digital transformation. Director of enterprise sales, Andrew Matlock, held a meeting with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MOH) on 18th June 2025 in Hanoi for a discussion on the co-operative opportunities. The list of agenda highlighted and identified the need for upgrading digital infrastructure for remote treatment and health examination, internet connections in remote areas’ clinics and hospitals, involvement in public investment, and remote treatment (digihealth/telehealth) that will enhance operating systems and work processes.
Further, the ministry appointed the Department of Training, Science and Technology to cooperate with the company on certain issues, with the contribution of the Department of International Cooperation under the National Centre for Health Information. According to MoH, digital transformation and IT are in high demand and of interest to the government, state, and party government of Vietnam. Considering these demands, SpaceX might stand a chance to prove its potential to contribute to Vietnam’s healthcare sector. As the market needs valuable support to overcome challenges.
The health companies have been fueling remote consultation, electronic medical records and health books, construction of data centers, and digital transformation. Whereas, Vietnam is facing challenges in developing IT, mainly in remote areas. Nonetheless, a region is said to be successful only if it can introduce development to every corner, class, and individual of the region. The country seeks collaboration and partnership to address challenges and outline healthcare progress. SpaceX has installed thousands of satellites to provide speedy internet services globally.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Tran Van Thuan, said, “SpaceX should help and work with the MoH, ensuring the remote area’s clinics and hospitals are connected to the Starlink satellite system and share issues, information, and plans that are discussed by members of the MoH. The ministry is ready to provide staff and the required information during the work period with the corporation.”
On 20th May 2025, at a meeting with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, SpaceX said, “The company will invest $1.5 billion to enable broadband internet connections in Vietnam, mainly in border, island, and remote areas. The ground stations up to 10-15 are expected to be built in the country in the first phase.”
