Collaboration with Ghana and Japan signed a grant facility focused to improve healthcare delivery in selected hospitals in the Northern region. This agreement was signed on February 23, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yashimoto.
Speaking on signing ceremony, he said funding will help to increase the speed of completion of the project, which is expected to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure, improve service delivery, and work on quality care for the underserved communities in the northern region.
Ghana and Japan have signed an additional grant of about 20 million US dollars to advance progress towards the healthcare system. These efforts to attain Universal health coverage
Mr. Ablakwa expressed the gratefulness and gratitude towards the constant support of the government and the people of Japan to the Ghana healthcare sector.
This support comes while working on the gaps in the health delivery between regions. This project will be helpful to the northern people for better access to equipped facilities and improved services.
He noted that the initiative is aligned with the government's efforts to reduce disparities between the two countries in healthcare access and outcomes, in the long-term partnership acknowledged by the contribution of the Japan Overseas Co-operation Volunteers to Ghana’s development across the region.
According to the foreign affairs minister, access to quality and affordable health services remains a functional deliverable to the Mahama administration.
On this part, Japan's Ambassador Yoshimoto remains committed to the development and support of the Ghana region.
He expressed that prioritising development would enhance the progress of the project and improve the quality of care for residents, which reflects the steady growth of bilateral ties between the two countries, stressing that Ghana and Japan reaffirm their commitment to impactful diplomatic cooperation.
