The 10x Genomics Inc., a captain of spatial biology and single-cell, and the A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore have initiated a research collaboration, focusing on inference from integrated spatialomics and histology with multimodal AI and phenotypes (TISHUMAP) project. This step will accelerate 10x Genomics’ advanced artificial intelligence and xenium platform, supporting the analysis of a number of tissue samples for providing accurate medicine and leveraging drug target discovery for inflammatory and cancer diseases.
Being part of the TISHUMAP study, 10x Genomics and A*STAR GIS will analyze around 2,500 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) clinical tissue samples, including those from colorectal, gastric, and liver cancers. Distinct from traditional methods that require tissue breakdown, the Xenium platform from 10x Genomics allows researchers to visualize gene activity directly in the single cells of intact tissues. This approach creates an accurate and comprehensive molecular-level navigation and soundly elaborates how cells are ranked, function, and interact in the natural biological space. After merging it with advanced AI, the potential-driven platform and abilities enable researchers to identify complex patterns in big datasets smoothly. It also advances the addressing power of drug targets and novel biomarkers. Overall, the motive is to unlock various ways to develop new diagnostics for next-generation and options plans to personalize treatment for the patients.
This collaboration and initiative will cover analysis stages and data generation, along with tailored gene panels for particular research questions and a smart software chain for the management of vast datasets. 10x Genomics and A*star GIS came together to regulate and improve lab workflows and strengthen advanced tools, which will ease scientists’ sample preparation, analyze spatial biology data, and also prepare for capturing images.
Associate director, spatial and single cell systems at A*STAR GIS, Dr. Shyam Prabhakar, said, “We are excited about the partnership with 10x genomics on TISHUMAP, a future-changing initiative for spatial omics (drug target discovery). The project is based on a*star GIS’s global role in translational genomics in Asia and 10x Genomics’ commitment towards the advancement of human health via single-cell and spatial cell innovations. We, together, are strengthening the foundation for effective therapy and smart diagnostics for several precancerous and cancer stages.”
CEO of 10x Genomics, Serge Saxonov, said, “With the Xenium platform, we are unfolding biology’s patterns and introducing the mechanism system of disease and health. By initiating accessibility in spatial biology, Xenium will encourage scientists globally to ask bigger questions and meet the required needs and development. We are further excited to partner with A*star GIS to leverage the development of new therapies and diagnostics.”
