A-wave is an innovative start-up originating from the University of Osaka through its specialized corporate venture capital fund, developing a cutting-edge home monitoring system that focuses on reducing hospital readmissions for patients with chronic heart failure. By utilizing a wristwatch-type wearable device to monitor patient data, this technology enables early detection of worsening conditions, thereby reducing readmission rates and improving the overall quality of life for seniors and patients suffering from cardiovascular issues.
With changes in the global environment and health consciousness, heart failure is increasingly frequent and leading to readmissions due to a worse quality of life and increasing medical costs. With early detection of symptoms and the ability to detect and prevent readmissions, it still remains challenging, as the patient has to visit the hospital for manual tests such as blood tests and X-rays.
As technology is transforming human lives with advanced techniques and automation, A-wave is developing a wrist-watch type wearable device which allow patient to measure their heart rate at home; this data is accessed remotely by doctors. By enabling early detection of symptoms of failure and notifying doctors about changes in the behavior of the patient's condition, these technologies are expected to support timely routine check-up which help to reduce the risk of readmissions.
Shimadzu has supported the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases using X-ray imaging equipment. Through this investment, the support A-waves business and objectives to expand the healthcare business by providing management and developing A-wave’s product.
