Siddharth Nandyala, a 14-year-old boy from Frisco, United States, has developed a smartphone application which is capable of detecting in just 7 seconds. The application is named ‘Circadian AI’, which helps in identifying symptoms of heart disease with enhanced accuracy. The application has been developed in collaboration with the medical professionals, using data gathered from hospitals in the US and India. The clinical trials have also shown the accuracy and effectiveness of over 96%, which has been effective in around 15,000 American and 3,500 Indian patients.
The application works based on putting the smartphone near the user's chest, which allows the app to record the heartbeat and filter background noise. It is further processed by a cloud-based machine learning model to analyze the data. The application has managed to detect conditions like heart failure, arrhythmia, coronary artery diseases and other valve-related problems.
Healthcare professionals, including cardiologists, have praised Siddharth’s potential, which impacts areas with limited healthcare access. The innovation is currently being used as a pre-screening tool for trained medical personnel, which does not impact the traditional methods.
Heart diseases are responsible for around 32% of worldwide deaths, which makes the innovation a crucial tool in addressing them globally. Louisiana State University professional, Dr Jamila Ahmed, said that early potential diagnosis in patients who cannot access medical care can save their lives with Nandyala’s innovation.
Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu applauded 14 14-year-old boy’s work, saying, "I am very impressed by Siddharth’s extraordinary talent and dedication to using technology for the benefit of humankind. At such a young age, he is an inspiration to us all. I wholeheartedly encourage him to pursue his passion for healthcare technology and assure him of our full support in all his endeavours."
The innovation isn’t his first contribution in the science and medical field; he had also created a low-cost prosthetic arm and founded STEM IT, a startup providing science-technology kits for students. Siddharth has also received certified recognition from the US House representatives and a letter from former US President Joe Biden.
