The US-based company declared its plans to launch its game-changing portable AI-powered ultrasound device in Bangladesh, showing a prominent step forward in the region’s healthcare market. The officials from the company Exo Imaging, run by its co-founders Sandeep Akkaraju and Yusuf Haque, held a meeting on 4th September 2025 with chief adviser Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house, Jamuna, to discuss the excellent technology and its potential results.
This AI-powered device can act as an assistant in the early detection stage of a vast range of healthcare conditions, including tuberculosis, breast cancer, lung disease, pregnancy-related complications, thyroid issues, and heart disease. Yunus proudly welcomed this initiative, marking it as a crucial milestone in achieving global healthcare access.
The discussion was witnessed by senior secretary and principal coordinator on SDGs affairs, Lamiya Morshed, and special assistant to the chief adviser, Satedur Rahman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) executive chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
A Bangladeshi-origin US medical technology expert and Exo’s chief technology officer, Yusuf Haque, said, “The company intends to roll out the device officially in emerging hospitals in Bangladesh, keeping a long-term vision in mind to extend access to community and rural healthcare centres.” Further, he added, “This portable AI ultrasound device is introduced to fuel efficiency and improve quality diagnostics, also in remote areas. It will transform healthcare across the world, mainly in places like rural Bangladesh. Nurses and doctors will use this device like a stethoscope. Health workers and doctors can use this device directly on patients, eliminating the need for travel or long waits.”
Chief executive officer of Exo, Sandeep Akkaraju, said, “Bangladesh is the first country in Asia to have this opportunity of technology, which is recently accessible in the United States with the approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). There is a plan to expand this device in Mexico and various Latin American countries soon.”
A board member at Exo and a former chairman of Intel Corporation, Omar Ishrak, said, “This technology is revolutionary for countries like Bangladesh. Up to 80% of the world’s population miss the availability to quality healthcare. This technology will help fill this gap. Chronic illness patients, like breast cancer, require continuous screening. This device smoothly starts the process. It is significantly a next-generation stethoscope, a robust tool that enables quick AI-driven diagnostic insights.”
