Announcement

Sandoz, a known leader in producing affordable medicines, has entered the US with its generic iron sucrose injection with the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The product is marketized and also ready for delivery and order throughout the United States. The existence of the iron sucrose formulation extends the Sandoz US iron therapy portfolio.

Necessity of iron sucrose injection

The intravenous iron sucrose is a groundbreaking therapy for iron deficiency anemia, which affects around five million US patients. This also involves individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD stages 3-5) who hold over 19 million Americans at risk for anemia. It is available at dialysis centers globally, enabling major iron replacement to be accountable for red blood cell production. The iron sucrose is approved for the treatment of all relevant signs of the reference medicines called Venofer.

Sandoz iron sucrose injection was established in collaboration with RAFARM, S.A. This also strengthens the partnership between RAFARM and Sandoz. The venofer is an officially registered trademark of Vifor (International) Inc. The new launch reflects Sandoz’s efforts to deliver relief to the US patients with the commitment to the effective dose to improve their health condition.

The president of Sandoz North America, Keren Haruvi, said, “Our iron sucrose’s launch marks our continuous commitment to focus on the availability of more affordable medicines for patients suffering from chronic conditions. We are glad to be able to deliver a quality, trustworthy alternative that contributes largely to the clinician, supply, and patient needs in the US.”

How does iron deficiency anemia occur in the body?

Iron deficiency anemia occurs when there’s no iron in the body, which is essential to make healthy red blood cells, also important for carrying oxygen in the body. Iron is fundamental for maintaining a healthy immune system and for hemoglobin production. The healthy immune system includes the good health of skin, nails, hair, and muscles. The individuals with chronic kidney disease, women who are breastfeeding or pregnant, and who menstruate, and also people with certain gastrointestinal conditions, are at a huge risk for iron deficiency anemia. The symptoms may include shortness of breath, pale skin, lightheadedness, weakness, and fatigue. If the oral iron is not actively effective or unabsorbable, intravenous iron sucrose is mostly used to refill the iron stores and contribute best to the body’s new red blood cell production.
