The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) introduced Malaysia Healthcare Week 2025 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The week is an effort highlighted to foster healthcare professional relations between the two nations and position Malaysia as the best medical tourism destination globally.
The event program began on August 19th and will continue until August 22nd, 2025. The event shows a series of engagements consisting business to business meetings, sharing sessions, networking events with Cambodian stakeholders, public outreach programmes, the expatriate community, and healthcare facilitators. The program announced the top Malaysian healthcare providers, consisting of Sunway Healthcare Group, OPTIMAX Eye Specialist Centre, National Heart Institute (IJN), and Healthcare Berhad.
The initiative reacts to the increasing demand for quality healthcare among Cambodians who have traveled abroad for treatments. In the year 2024, Malaysia calculated approximately 1.6 million healthcare travelers earning RM2.72 billion in revenue. It’s almost 21% hype compared to the previous year's record. Cambodia supported 3,612 travelers, which exceeded 14.93% growth compared to 2023 growth. This shows robust potency as an evolving growth industry for Malaysia’s healthcare travel companies.
Further, the program proudly flaunted Malaysia’s expertise in targeted treatments like oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, women’s health, and orthopaedics, while showcasing Malaysia’s unique approach that merged wellness, preventive care, traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM), and modern medicine. Malaysia is heading towards the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026. MHTC is constantly improving its healthcare offerings, promising an exceptional medical care experience to international patients.
The major attractive features of the event are Malaysia's healthcare, the fruition experience of Malaysia’s healthcare journey, and women’s health. The concerned and remarkable session with the women's community, involving spouses of foreign ambassadors in Cambodia, focused on sharing healthcare insights related to women. The reach and collaboration with the Malaysia Business Chamber of Cambodia (MBCC), Cambodian insurers, media, and government officials will be introducing Malaysia’s popular hospitals and an easy patient journey. A committed B2B session with medical facilitators, referral partners, and travel agencies to flourish in the long-term partnership.
MHTC’s vice president of marketing and communications, Mr. Lokman Izam Abd Aziz, said, “Malaysia Healthcare Week in Cambodia is an essential platform for us to introduce Malaysia’s best-in-class healthcare services to Cambodian patients. Our affordability, international standards, multilingual expertise, and proximity prove Malaysia as an ideal healthcare destination for the region’s vast expatriate community and Cambodians.”
