MIT Engineers Evolved a Tiny Ingestible Sensor that Records Temperature From Inside the Body

For practicable steps & achieve core body temperature measurements, MIT engineers have introduced an ingestible sensor that can share consistent temperature updates from the GI tract.

Basically, this is a tiny blueberry-shaped sensor, with 6 millimeters in diameter and 4 millimeters in height, which is much smaller than present ingestible temperature sensors. This sensor allows more accurate temperature measurements for fertility tracking & for monitoring people during anesthesia.

Giovanni Traverso, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at MIT, commented that a sensor shows monitoring infections & identification of these infections early, especially for at-risk populations like people having immunosuppressed from chemotherapy treatments or immunosuppressive drugs.

Ingestible electronics

In recent years, a handful of ingestible temperature sensors have become commercially available, with a major limitation is having a size of a multivitamin or slightly larger, which raises challenges in swallowing. Because of complex circuits, those capsules lead to large, which need a great deal of power. To resolve this concern, the MIT team set out to develop sensors that could measure temperature accurately, with a much smaller size.
