The Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate, & the MIT Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research have entered into a strategic partnership to foster AI-driven oncology research, translational science, & bioconvergence innovation. This collaboration is employing Abu Dhabi's intelligent life science ecosystem; & will link world-class research expertise with the infrastructure, talent and capabilities needed to expedite the conversion of scientific discovery into real-world impact.
Moreover, the alliance is emphasising bolstering advanced cancer research with an aim at understanding climate-health and population-specific oncology risks. This will be gained through the progression & execution of large-volume, multi-institutional clinical trials & translational research studies, with involvement in MIT's Bioconvergence Cancer Alliance and development of shared research databases & biobanks allowing population-specific cancer research.
H.E. Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the DoH, commented that their collaboration with the MIT Koch Institute is based on the principle & aiming at establishing an all-inclusive sustainable ecosystem that strengthens knowledge sharing, scientific discovery and applied innovation. Meanwhile, Matthew Vander Heiden, MD, PhD, Director, MIT's Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT, stated that they are seeking towards combining MIT's research community with Abu Dhabi's growing healthcare innovation ecosystem to unveil jointly new opportunities in oncology, AI & precision medicine that finally enhance patient outcomes.
According to Towards Healthcare, the Middle East liquid biopsy market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 244.68 million in 2026 to approximately USD 874.34 million by 2035, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.2% from 2026 to 2035. Middle East is facing a huge rise in cancer cases, which is impelling a robust breakthrough in non-invasive early detection technologies. Besides this, the governments of Saudi Arabia & the UAE are providing vast healthcare infrastructure investments, driving the overall market growth.

According to Towards Healthcare, the Middle East liquid biopsy market is highly promoting tailored medicines. Specifically, GCC countries, such as the UAE & Saudi Arabia, are pushing the broader adoption of precision cancer treatments through programs like the Saudi Genome Program that integrates genomics into standard care & further develops higher demand for ctDNA & CTC profiling. Furthermore, the Middle East will have a key opportunity in decentralized testing, via implementing alliances, which means domestic labs can operate high-throughput assays without sending samples internationally, & significantly lowers turnaround times.
