Globus Medical, Inc., a significant musculoskeletal technology organization, announced that the Excelsius3D intelligent 3-in-1 imaging technology has recently received CE marking for sale in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The addition of Excelsius3D increases the company's Excelsius Ecosystem of allowing technologies and further improves the strength of the ExcelsiusGPS robotic navigation technology in the European Union.

Excelsius3D is an intelligent, mobile imaging platform that integrates 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CT), 2D fluoroscopy, and digital radiography in a single technology. Intended for intraoperative use, Excelsius3D seamlessly integrates with ExcelsiusGPS, allowing intraoperative imaging and robotic navigation to work together in a streamlined technical workflow. Its dense footprint and omnidirectional wheels enable easy positioning and transport in the operating room, while offering surgeons and operating room teams multiple imaging modalities in one inclusive platform.

"The CE mark for Excelsius3D™ represents an important milestone in the continued expansion of the Excelsius™ Ecosystem," said Keith Pfeil, President and Chief Executive Officer of Globus Medical. "We are committed to bringing innovative enabling technologies to surgeons around the world, and this important milestone further expands the capabilities of our platform by combining intraoperative imaging with the robotic navigation capabilities of ExcelsiusGPS™ across the European Union."

"Excelsius3D™ was developed with a focus on bringing advanced imaging capabilities into a mobile platform that can integrate within the surgical workflow," said Norbert Johnson, Chief Technology Officer of Globus Medical. "Its integration with ExcelsiusGPS™ represents an important step in connecting imaging, navigation, and robotics within the Excelsius™ Ecosystem, providing surgeons with complementary technologies designed to work together throughout the surgical workflow."

Excelsius3D is intended to function as a stand-alone intraoperative imaging stage or as a combined component of the Excelsius Ecosystem with ExcelsiusGPS. This flexibility enables hospitals and surgical teams to leverage the technology's well-developed imaging strategies across a range of intraoperative applications while also supporting an integrated imaging and robotic navigation workflow when applied with ExcelsiusGPS.

The Excelsius3D technology received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance in 2021. With CE marking, Globus Medical will begin commercializing Excelsius3D in the European Union and United Kingdom sectors.

Indications for Patients

Excelsius3D is a mobile X-ray technology intended for 2D fluoroscopy, 2D digital radiography, and 3D imaging of aging and pediatric patients. The technology is intended to be used where doctors benefit from 2D and 3D information on anatomic structures and high-contrast objects with high X-ray attenuation, like bony anatomy and metallic objects. Excelsius3D images are well-suited for image-guided technology such as ExcelsiusGPS.

According to Towards Healthcare, the spinal imaging market is projected to grow significantly, with estimates indicating the market size will increase from USD 56.53 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 80.05 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 3.94% from 2026 to 2035. Imaging technology is very significant in severe spinal disorders like cancer, infection, or nerve compression.

Spinal Imaging Market Size is USD 56.53 Billion in 2026.

There are important, clear guidelines related to severe symptoms that help to determine if a scan is needed. A previous history of tumor surgery, weight loss, or paleness in a limb are some of the symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging scans give a very clear picture of the precise structure of the spine. It does not tell the physician why the spine is aching. A scan is sensitive for the identification of severe spinal disorders like tumours and infection, such that it will almost always identify this type of disease if it is present. This means imaging technology is a very significant tool in the assessment and detection of cancer and infection.

About Globus Medical, Inc.

Globus Medical, Inc. is a leading worldwide musculoskeletal solutions organization intended to resolve unmet clinical requirements and transform lives. They innovate with inspired emergency, offer world-class education and medical support, and advance care throughout spine, orthopedic trauma, joint reconstruction, biomaterials, and enabling solutions.

A recent report by Towards Healthcare highlights that the spinal imaging market is growing, as a spine X-ray is an imaging test that uses electromagnetic waves to take comprehensive pictures of the bones in a patient's back and neck. This condition might require spinal X-rays if patients were born with structural spine challenges or if patients have pain from trauma or situations such as arthritis or osteoporosis. A spine X-ray is an imaging test that uses electromagnetic waves to take images of the bones in the patient's painful region. On an X-ray, the patient's bones, in this case the vertebrae, show up as white, and soft tissues like muscle and fat show up as shades of gray. In a spine X-ray, a radiologist uses an X-ray tube to pass a small amount of radiation through the body and onto an X-ray sensor.
