Stakeholders approached for collaboration, innovation, and implementation of new ideas to elevate and transform West Africa’s healthcare management. Following the declaration of the 12th edition of the WHX Labs Lagos and World Health Expo (WHX) Lagos, the region experienced a significant shift in its healthcare sector. The initiative by the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) introduced health experts and leaders to a conference popularly themed as “The creative catalyst: driving sustainable healthcare solutions in West Africa,” which helped representatives from PSHAN identify the health system’s struggles and gaps hindering growth. The need for creativity was also addressed in the conference. The representatives felt that sustainability would be difficult to achieve without healthcare solutions' acceptance of local relevance and innovation.
Another initiative of WHX Labs Lagos witnessed expert-led discussions mainly on laboratory and diagnostics systems. The government initiatives and stakeholders' investment in the healthcare sector will leverage the chances of growth. By far, West Africa’s healthcare market is experiencing exponential growth. The market is predicted to reach $16.63 billion in 2025 and is expected to increase to around $22.47 billion by 2029, according to market analysis.
The Chairman of the 10th Senate committee on health, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, said, “The Expo was conducted for an urgent need of strengthening the public-private partnerships. Forming an inclusive and sustainable healthcare system is also essential. The collaboration was complex to scale access and achieve an extensive impact in the sector.” Further, she shared her views on the scheme, saying, “The accelerating universal health coverage (UHC) and Health Sovereignty scheme introduced excellent practices via public-private integration.” Additionally, “The HFN president demonstrated a platform to combine industry leaders and policymakers to achieve shared goals. She also praised the efforts of the event organizer, Informa Markets, for enabling effective conversations and technology that highlighted the growth in healthcare development globally.”
HFN President, Dr. Njide Ndili, said, “The achievement of universal health coverage will depend on the stakeholders' constant approach and adoption of the innovative models and development in the public and private sectors. The conference focused on practical strategies and success stories to accelerate these models regionally and nationally.”
Professor of molecular biology and genomics at Redeemer’s University, Prof. Christian Happi, said, “Research should be prioritized if Africa wants to organize a well-proactive and responsive health system. The innovation in laboratory science will improve disease detection and build a stronger epidemic preparedness.”
